Historic Run Continues with 2-2 Draw at Rice

Louisiana’s seven-match unbeaten streak is tied for the longest streak in program history
HOUSTON, Texas - The Louisiana soccer team matched the longest unbeaten streak in program history with a 2-2 draw on Thursday at Rice. The Ragin' Cajuns are 4-0-3 now on the season and are yet to trail at any point.
"It was a very good test for us on the road," said head coach Chris McBride. "Rice is a very athletic team that's dangerous in a lot of areas of the game. Playing on someone else's field and their environment was a good experience for our team."
Battling the rain early, Louisiana scored first in the sixth minute. Aila Swinton put home a perfect corner kick by Sienna Hurrell with a header for her second of the year. Rice equalized in the 35th minute, sending the game into the locker room tied. Just four minutes into the second half, Adeline Nemeth scored her third of the season to retake the lead. That lead lasted just 10 minutes before Rice equalized again with what would be the final goal of the night.
"I felt the team responded well tonight," said McBride. "Rice scored two excellent goals tonight from outside the box. I was very proud the team didn't get in their heads and let the goals bring them down because they were super finishes. We attacked the game after both goals and immediately created chances, which showed the true mentality of the team."
Louisiana led on the stat sheet once again, outshooting the Owls 18-10. Natalie Mayes had her busiest night of the season making five saves in the effort.
The Ragin' Cajuns head east on Sunday to take on LSU with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m. in Baton Rouge.
