Saturday was the first meeting between the two schools
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana soccer team welcomed James Madison to the pitch for the first time ever in Lafayette in a battle between the two Sun Belt Conference teams on Saturday, September 30. Despite the home-field advantage, the Cajuns couldn't keep up with the SBC preseason favorite in the 4-0 final.
It didn't take long for the visitors to find the back of the net, with Shea Collins connecting in the sixth minute. Moments later, Amanda Attanasi scored to put the Dukes up 2-0 in the 12th minute of the game. Suwaibatu Mohammed made it a 3-0 game with a goal of her own in the 21st minute.
Brynn Dunbar had a chance to get the Cajuns on the board but a Duke defender got in front of her shot heading towards the back of the net in the 41st minute. The Cajuns had their chances in the second half. Emma Bates had a shot just off the fingertips of the keeper which hit the crossbar. In the final moments of the game, Tatum Beck had a shot from inside the box that sailed wide left in their final scoring chance of the afternoon. Mohammed added her second goal of the game for the Dukes in the second half for the final goal of the game.
Louisiana is back in action on Thursday, October 5 in Statesboro, Georgia as they take on Georgia Southern.
