Louisiana sets program record for wins in August; will face Mississippi State on Thursday

LAKE CHARLES – Louisiana scored three times in the final 10 minutes of the first half and added another goal after halftime as the Ragin' Cajuns cruised to a 4-1 victory over McNeese on Sunday at Cowgirl Field.

The victory marked the fourth for Louisiana (4-1-1) in August, setting a program record for wins in the month. McNeese dropped its third straight match to fall to 3-3-0.

Louisiana broke through in the 36th minute when Lily Parker found the back of the net off an assist from Maria Reyes. McNeese answered just over three minutes later when Isabella Baltov scored to even the match at 1-1.

The tie did not last long.

Salma Elhaimer restored Louisiana's lead in the 42nd minute, converting a corner kick from Addison Soehn. Sophia Moore then scored an unassisted goal in the 45th minute, sending the Ragin' Cajuns into halftime with a 3-1 advantage.

Maiya Clark added to the lead in the 62nd minute, scoring her first goal of the season off an assist from Lanie Benoit to cap the scoring.

Louisiana controlled the match offensively, holding an 18-9 advantage in shots and putting 10 attempts on target. The Ragin' Cajuns also earned six corner kicks to McNeese's one.

Elhaimer, a transfer from McNeese in 2025, led Louisiana with four shots, including three on goal.

Natalie Mayes earned the victory in goal, playing the first half before Ally Allen took over after halftime. Allen made one save in the second half to help preserve the three-goal victory.

Louisiana returns to action on Thursday when it travels to Starkville, Miss., to face Mississippi State. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. with the match being televised on SEC Network Plus.
