Cajuns Close Out Opening Month On Road at Cowgirls

Louisiana, McNeese meet for 18th time on the pitch

LAFAYETTE – Coming off a 2-0 win over in-state opponent Nicholls in its last match, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns soccer team travels to Lake Charles to face McNeese in a 5 p.m. contest at Cowgirl Field.
 
The match will be available on ESPN+.
 
Louisiana (3-1-1) pitched its first clean sheet of the season in Thursday's win over Nicholls. Lily Parker and Maria Reyes each scored goals for the Ragin' Cajuns while Natalie Mayes and Ally Allen combined to pitch the shutout.
 
Miku Kurihara, who had her four-match streak with a goal snapped, has scored a team-high five goals on the season for Louisiana with Reyes posting two. Carson Glenn and Addison Soehn have assisted on a pair of goals each to pace the Ragin' Cajuns while 13 players have scored at least one point on the season.
 
McNeese (3-2-0) dropped its second straight match in a 3-1 setback at West Florida on Thursday. The Cowgirls, under first-year coach Alexsis Cable, won their first three matches of the season before a 4-2 loss against North Texas last Sunday.
 
Rhiannon Mayne-Tourond recorded her team-high second goal of the season for McNeese against the Argonauts while Shannon Dempsey and Celeste Marijnissen have split nearly equal time in goal for the Cowgirls.
 
The meeting with McNeese is the 18th all-time between the schools with Louisiana holding a 10-4-3 lead. The Ragin' Cajuns have won the last two contests, including a 3-0 clean sheet in the previous meeting behind goals from Salma Elhaimer, Briana Henry and Maiya Clark.
