Cajuns look to continue hot start against Bulldogs
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Soccer team looks to continue its hot start to the season when it visits unbeaten Mississippi State on Thursday at the MSU Soccer Field.
The match is scheduled for a 5 p.m., start and will be streamed live on SEC Network+.
Louisiana (4-1-1) capped off its opening month with a 4-1 win over McNeese to set a program record for wins in the month of August. Lily Parker scored her second career goal in as many matches for the Ragin' Cajuns with Salma Elhaimer, Sophie Moore and Maiya Clark each scoring goals.
Addison Soehn added a pair of assists for Louisiana while Lanie Benoit recorded her first career assist in the win.
Miku Kurihara leads Louisiana in goals (5) and points (10), with Soehn and Maria Reyes second on the team with five points each.
Natalie Mayes and freshman Ally Allen have combined for a pair of wins each, along with 17 saves.
Hailey Johnson has led the way for MSU (5-0-0), recording a point in all but one match this year and contributing an assist or scoring herself on more than a third of the Bulldogs' 15 goals this year. Behind her, Kati Anne Shepherd has produced a dynamic start to her freshman season, totaling eight points (3 G, 2 A) in her first five matches.
Jenny Harrison has posted two shutouts in goal and ranks fourth in the SEC with a 0.42 goals against average, but she has not been tested often as the Bulldogs are allowing just 4.4 shots per game this season. Only Auburn (3.2) is allowing fewer in the SEC this season.
