9/15/2022 7:21:00 PM | Soccer

First-ever meeting between Ragin' Cajuns, Monarchs on the pitch

LAFAYETTE – After a grueling five-match road trip, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Soccer team plays its first match on its home pitch in 26 days when it opens Sun Belt Conference play against league newcomer Old Dominion at the Home Bank Track/Soccer Complex.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The match – the first-ever meeting between Louisiana (1-3-3) and ODU (2-4-1) will be streamed live on ESPN+ with live results available at CajunStats.com. Admission to all Ragin' Cajuns home soccer matches is free.

Louisiana plays its first match on its home pitch since a 2-2 draw against Stephen F. Austin on Aug. 21. The Ragin' Cajuns went 0-2-2 on their recent road trip, earning draws against Louisiana Tech and Abilene Christian before falling in matches last weekend at Idaho and Eastern Washington.

Hailly Waterhouse leads Louisiana in goals (2) and points (4) with Karleen Bedre (3), Ruthny Mathurin (3) and Penelope Montenegro (3) next in scoring. Libby Harper has played every minute this season in goal for the Ragin' Cajuns, stopping 14 shots while posting one shutout.

ODU opened the season with four losses (Auburn, William & Mary, East Carolina, Virginia Tech) – all by shutout – before earning a 1-0 win over Longwood on Sept. 4. The Monarchs have posted a 2-0-1 record in their last three matches, capped by a 2-2 draw against American last Sunday.

The Monarchs were picked to win the SBC East Division in their inaugural season in the league after claiming the Conference USA title in 2021 and advancing to the NCAA Championships.
