Kurihara's 12th goal not enough for Cajuns; will host Louisiana Tech on Sunday
MONROE – Miku Kurihara scored her team-leading 12th goal of the season, but Louisiana Soccer was unable to rally past ULM in a 3-1 loss Thursday in a Sun Belt Conference match at Brown Stadium.
Kurihara helped the Ragin' Cajuns erase an early deficit with her equalizer in the 15th minute, but the Warhawks scored twice in the second half to pull away. Louisiana fell to 9-5-3 overall and 3-3-2 in Sun Belt Conference play, while ULM improved to 5-10-2 overall and 2-5-1 in league action.
After ULM took the lead on an own goal in the 12th minute, Kurihara responded less than three minutes later, finding the net to even the match at 1-1.
The teams remained tied at halftime before ULM's Ines De Lope Casanova scored in the 53rd minute off an assist from Jade Bowé to give the Warhawks a 2-1 advantage.
Louisiana continued to push for an equalizer, outshooting ULM 7-6 in the second half. However, Amy Sharkey scored in the 78th minute to extend the Warhawks' lead to 3-1.
The Ragin' Cajuns finished with a 10-8 advantage in shots and a 6-5 edge in shots on goal. ULM goalkeeper Jen Handy recorded five saves, while Louisiana goalkeeper Natalie Mayes finished with three.
