Louisiana Drops Match Out West To Eastern Washington, 4-1

Ragin' Cajuns return home to host Old Dominion in SBC opener
CHENEY, Wash. – Lucy Ortiz scored her first collegiate goal on a penalty kick in the 72nd minute, but Eastern Washington scored twice near the end of the first half and added a pair of goals in the second to claim a 4-1 win over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Soccer team on Sunday at the EWU Sports & Recreation Soccer Field.

Louisiana (1-3-3), which wrapped up a five-match road swing, placed 10 of its 13 shots on frame in the match but Kamryn Willoughby was able to stop nine as EWU (3-3-2) scored twice in the final 11 minutes of the first half to take a 2-0 lead at the break.

Mya Elder-Hammond scored her first goal of the season for the Eagles in the 60th minute before Louisiana got on the board when Ortiz beat Willoughby to the back-left corner of the net.

The Eagles would respond just over a minute later as Grace Terrill scored on an unassisted goal for her first of the season.

EWU took a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute when Madison Kem converted on a penalty kick after a Louisiana foul inside the 18-yard box. Corina Froehle, who posted a goal and assist, increased the Eagles' lead to 2-0 when she scored on an unassisted goal midway through the 44th minute.

Ruthny Mathurin took a match-high four shots for Louisiana with three coming on frame. Ortiz and Penelope Montenegro each placed a pair of shots on goal for the Ragin' Cajuns with Hailey Hoffmann, Alyssa Abbott and Tatum Beck each adding a shot at the net.

Louisiana returns home for its next match on Friday (Sept. 16) when it opens Sun Belt Conference play against league newcomer Old Dominion at the Home Bank Track/Soccer Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
