Bedre moves into fourth place in career points, fifth in goals scored
JONESBORO, Ark. – Karleen Bedre's penalty kick in the seventh minute helped her move up the record books in both career goals and points scored for the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Soccer team but Arkansas State scored a pair of goals in a five-minute span in the first half before scoring midway through the second for a 3-1 Sun Belt Conference victory on Thursday at the A-State Soccer Complex.
Aliyah Williamson scored a pair of goals while Darby Stotts had a goal and an assist at Arkansas State (6-4-2, 4-1-0 SBC) won its fourth straight match overall and evened the all-time series against Louisiana (1-6-5, 0-3-2 SBC), 13-13-0.
Bedre, who moved into fourth-place on the Ragin' Cajuns all-time points list (51) and fifth in goals (18), converted her first penalty kick of the season after A-State was called for a handball in the 18-yard box in the seventh minute.
Libby Harper, who finished with five saves to increase her total at Louisiana to 103, stopped a pair of shots in the first 11 minutes of the match before the Red Wolves tied the match at 1-1 in the 18th minute when Sarah Strong sent in a cross from the left side and Stotts converted for her third goal of the year.
The Red Wolves would score again in the 23rd minute when Haley Husted sent a well-placed over the Louisiana back line and Williamson was able to convert past Harper in the bottom left corner of the goal for a 2-1 advantage.
Bedre and Sisley Stephens placed shots on goal in the second half for Louisiana which were collected by Luther in goal. The Red Wolves would seal the win in the 68th minute when Stotts collected a throw line deep in the A-State attacking zone and sent a crossing pass which found Williamson for her second goal of the match and third of the season.
Bedre and Stephens combined for eight of Louisiana's 14 shots in the match with Mathurin adding a pair of attempts and Tatum Beck, Mariella Stephens, Carol Rodriguez and Ally White one shot each.
Louisiana will return home to host Texas State on Sunday in the annual Pink Game at the Home Bank Track/Soccer Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. and admission is free.
