Harper stops five shots in shutout win; Sisley Stephens collects first career goal
MONROE – Karleen Bedre scored her 19th career goal in the seventh minute of play to break a scoreless contest and Ruthny Mathurin added a goal and assist to help lead the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Soccer team to a 3-0 win over ULM in a Sun Belt Conference match on Sunday at Brown Stadium.

Libby Harper stopped five shots to earn her second shutout of the season while Sisley Stephens notched her first career goal as Louisiana (2-7-5, 1-4-2 SBC) snapped a 12-match winless streak and posted its first win since a 2-1 victory in the season-opener against Florida International.

Bedre, who moved into sole possession of third place in school history for career points (54), would give the Ragin' Cajuns all the goals it would need when she beat ULM goalkeeper Mickaela Leal to the lower-left corner of the net for a 1-0 lead. The game-winner was set up after Alyssa Abbott intercepted a ULM pass and found Mathurin, whose well-placed through ball found Bedre past the ULM defense for her third goal of the season.

Holding a 1-0 lead at the break, Louisiana would score twice in a nine-minute span to post its third straight shutout victory on the road against ULM (10-4-2, 2-4-1 SBC) and its fifth in the last six matches overall.

Mathurin added her third goal of the season for Louisiana in the 60th minute when she raced down the left side of the pitch, worked her way into the 18-yard box and sent a shot that went through the hands of Leal and into the right-corner of the net for a 2-0 cushion.

Stephens sealed the win for the Ragin' Cajuns nine minutes later when she took a pass from Ally White, beat Leal who charged out of the box and scored an open-netter for a 3-0 lead and their most goals against the Warhawks in Monroe since a 3-3 tie in 2002.

Harper collected four of her five saves for Louisiana in the first half and tied Alexis Stricklin for ninth-place on the school's all-time list for wins. The junior earned her fifth shutout in a Ragin' Cajuns uniform, tying Leslie Beckman (2001) for the seventh-most in school history.

Louisiana was outshot by ULM, 11-9, but was efficient in placing six shots on frame. Tatum Beck took a team-high three shots for Louisiana with Bedre taking a pair of attempts and nearly missing a goal late in the 86th minute when her left-footed blast hit the crossbar and bounced out.

Brynn Dunbar and Penelope Montenegro each added shots for the Ragin' Cajuns while ULM's Mara Grutkamp led all players with four shot attempts.

Louisiana will wrap up the home portion of its schedule on Thursday when it hosts Troy (3-7-3, 1-4-2 SBC) at the Home Bank Track/Soccer Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
