Louisiana continues SEC road swing on Thursday at Kentucky
STARKVILLE, Miss. – A late first-half goal by Onyi Echegini and a late second-half goal by Hailey Farrington-Bentil lifted Mississippi State to a 2-0 victory over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Soccer team on Sunday at the MSU Soccer Field.
Louisiana (1-1-0), playing the first of three consecutive road matches against SEC opponents, placed three shots on goal against MSU goalkeeper Maddy Anderson with Hailey Hoffmann, Julieta Limardo and Rachel Sutter each recording shot attempts. Anna Grassinger's set piece off a free kick in the third minute bounced off the top of the crossbar.
Mississippi State (1-1-0) broke open a scoreless contest in the 43rd minute when Echegini's set piece off a free kick got past Louisiana goalkeeper Libby Harper for a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs iced the match late in the 82nd minute when Farrington-Bentil got a ball into the 18-yard box and placed a shot over Harper into the upper right corner of the goal.
Harper stopped five shots for Louisiana, who fell to 0-3-0 against Mississippi State all-time with the last two matches coming since late February.
Louisiana will return to the road on Thursday when it travels to Lexington, Ky., to face Kentucky in a 6 p.m. CDT contest.
