Ragin' Cajuns looking for first-ever 3-0-0 start in school history
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Soccer team looks for its first-ever 3-0-0 start in school history when it returns to action on Sunday to face Stephen F. Austin at the Ragin' Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m., with live stats available at CajunStats.com.
The Ragin' Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility will operate at a significantly reduced capacity for the 2020 season (unless state policy changes during the season). This will allow for fans and University students to be accommodated this season.
Should disruptions or modifications to the 2020 season occur due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Athletics will quickly communicate the adjustments through its social media channels and RaginCajuns.com. Additionally, the department will communicate any changes to specific entry and attendance protocols for home matches.
Louisiana, off to its third 2-0-0 start to the season in school history and first since 2012, overcame a 1-0 deficit against defending Sun Belt Conference champion South Alabama with a goal in the 89th minute to send the match to overtime before freshman Alyssa Abbott's game-winner gave the Ragin' Cajuns a 2-1 victory.
Lizzie Mayfield posted her second straight match with a goal and an assist to lead Louisiana while Jordan Higgins stopped seven shots, including an early penalty kick opportunity to notch her second win of the season.
SFA (1-0-1) earned the first Division I victory on the soccer pitch with a 2-1 double overtime win at Texas State on Sept. 4 before battling Abilene Christian to a 1-1 draw at home last Sunday. The match against Louisiana will be the third of five scheduled matches for the Lumberjacks, who will also face Southland Conference opponent Central Arkansas in a pair of non-conference matches.
