Cajuns wrap up Windy City weekend against winless Cougars

CHICAGO – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's soccer team wraps up its weekend in the state of Illinois on Sunday when it faces Western Athletic Conference member Chicago State at Kroc Stadium.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Social media updates will be available on Twitter at RaginCajunsSOC.

Louisiana (0-2-1) opened its weekend in suburban Chicago with a 4-4 tie against Northern Illinois on Friday as an equalizer goal by Alex Augustyn with three seconds remaining in regulation sent the match to overtime. Both teams played a pair of 10-minute overtime periods with the Ragin' Cajuns having a shot in the final seconds of the second extra session stopped by NIU's Julia Lentz.

The meeting against Chicago State (0-3-0) will be the first-ever between the schools and Louisiana's first-ever matchup against a current member of the WAC. The Cougars opened the season with a 5-0 loss at Northern Iowa before dropping home matches against Green Bay and Purdue Fort Wayne.

After concluding its four-match roadtrip, Louisiana will return home and will open its six-match home schedule on Thursday (Sept. 5) against visiting Southern University in a 7 p.m. contest at the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer/Track Complex.

Admission to all Ragin' Cajuns home soccer matches is free.

JUST FOR KICKS ...
• Louisiana, playing its 20th season of intercollegiate soccer, takes its first-ever trip to the upper Midwest this week as it visits Mid-American Conference member Northern Illinois (Aug. 30) and Western Athletic Conference opponent Chicago State (Sept. 1).
• The trip to Illinois wraps up a season-opening, four-match road trip for the Ragin' Cajuns.
• The Ragin' Cajuns opened the season on the road for the fourth straight year and opened in a tournament for the first time since the 2004 FAU/DoubleTree Kickoff Classic in Boca Raton, Fla.

THROW-INS ...
• Louisiana's four goals at Northern Illinois on Friday was its largest scoring output since a 5-1 win over Nicholls on Sept. 10, 2017 in Lafayette. The four goals equaled the most scored by the Ragin' Cajuns on the road since Oct. 5, 2014 at South Alabama – which ironically ended in a 4-4 tie.
• The first four matches for Louisiana away from home to start the 2019 campaign marks the first time the Ragin' Cajuns open with four or more straight matches on the road since 2004.
• Gwen Mummert and Mackenzie Lee are the only two players to play in all 290 minutes during the first three matches of the 2019 season.
• Lee, Una Einarsdottir and Julianne DeBlieux were named team captains for the 2019 season.
• The goals scored by Katherine Whitman and Alex Augustyn against Northern Illinois were the first for each in a Ragin' Cajuns uniform.
• The two assists for freshman Rachel Sutter against NIU marked the first multi-assist match for a Louisiana player – and 26th time overall – since Ashleigh Cade against Troy (Oct. 22, 2017).

THE KEY TO WINNING
• In 12 seasons as head coach at Trinity University (Texas), Lance Key won 88.3 percent of his matches, compiling a 210-21-16  in the process.
• His .883 winning percentage is third-best all-time among NCAA Division I, II or III head coaches and ranking behind Scott Frey (Messiah) and Anson Dorrance (North Carolina).

Name (School) - Pct. (Record)
Scott Frey (Messiah) - .920 (399-23-26)
Anson Dorrance (North Carolina) - .902 (847-74-40)
Lance Key (Louisiana) - .883 (210-21-16)
Marcus Wood (Hardin-Simmons) - .877 (348-37-28)
Joe Russo (TCNJ) - .863 (518-64-43)

SCOUTING CHICAGO STATE
• CSU opened the season on Aug. 22 with a 5-0 loss at Northern Iowa before losses at home against Green Bay (2-0) on Aug. 25 and Purdue Fort Wayne (1-0) on Aug. 30.

LOUISIANA vs. THE WAC
• The match against Chicago State is the first-ever matchup for the Ragin' Cajuns against a current member of the Western Athletic Conference.
