Cajuns Blank Chicago State For First Win In Key Era, 2-0

Sykes, Bedre score in second half as Louisiana earns first road win since 2017
CHICAGO – Skyla Sykes and Karleen Bedre broke up a scoreless tie with goals in the second half and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's soccer team earned a 2-0 victory over Chicago State on Sunday at Brooks Field.
Una Einarsdottir and Ashley Newland each earned assists while Mackenzie Lee notched four saves in leading Louisiana (1-2-1) to its first win under first-year coach Lance Key and its first road victory since a 2-1 decision at Arkansas State on Sept. 15, 2017.
Sykes scored her first career goal in the 50th minute for Louisiana after taking a pass from Einarsdottir and placing a shot past CSU goalkeeper Judith Sorribes for a 1-0 lead.
Bedre gave the Ragin' Cajuns an insurance goal in the 82nd minute when she scored past Sorribes for her team-high second goal of the season.
Louisiana outshot Chicago State (0-4-0), 23-11, while placing 11 shots on-goal. Freshman Barbara Castellanos took a team-high three shots for the Cougars while Sorribes stopped nine shots in goal.
Louisiana will open its home schedule on Thursday (Sept. 5) when it plays host to in-state opponent Southern University at the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer/Track Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
