Louisiana to wrap up exhibition schedule on Sunday at McNeese

HAMMOND – Ellie Williams snapped a scoreless tie 37 seconds into the third period and Darcy Gillette added an insurance goal just over 10 minutes later to lift Southeastern Louisiana to a 2-0 victory over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns soccer team on Friday at Strawberry.

The exhibition match, which was played in three 30-minute periods, was the first of two preseason contests for Louisiana. The Ragin' Cajuns will wrap up their exhibition slate on Sunday in a 7 p.m., match at McNeese before opening the regular-season on Thursday (Aug. 22) against UTSA in the Cardinal Classic in Beaumont, Texas.

Louisiana had a pair of scoring opportunities in the opening period, including a shot by freshman Rachel Sutter. The Ragin' Cajuns got its best scoring opportunity late in the match as a shot by Madysin Girouard was deflected deep in the SLU box before a follow-up shot bounced off the crossbar.

Williams broke open a defensive struggle as she scored on a breakaway in the 61st minute after taking a feed from Mya Guillory to give the Lady Lions a 1-0 lead. Gillette followed with a goal in the 71st minute after she split the defense found the back of the net.

Mackenzie Lee and Victoria Mendes each saw time in goal for Louisiana.
