Cajuns, Cowgirls Battle To 2-2 Tie In Exhibition Finale

Bedre scores twice to lead Cajuns; Louisiana to open season vs. UTSA on Thursday
LAKE CHARLES – Freshman Karleen Bedre scored a pair of goals, including the equalizer late in the second half, and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns soccer team battled to a 2-2 tie against host McNeese in the exhibition finale for both teams on Sunday at Cowgirl Field.
Louisiana, which will officially open the regular-season on Thursday against UTSA at the Cardinal Classic in Beaumont, Texas, took a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute when Bedre placed a shot past MSU goalkeeper Gabrielle Christy off a counter attack.
McNeese scored an equalizer three minutes later when Maddie Neidig placed a shot past Louisiana goalkeeper Mackenzie Lee off a rebound before the Cowgirls eventually took a 2-1 lead on Isabel Kembel's goal off a corner kick in the 59th minute.
Bedre knotted the game at 2-2 in the 74th minute when she added her second goal of the match.
Una Einarsdottir and Izzy Wheeler each had assists for Louisiana while Lee had three saves. Neidig took four of McNeese's 12 shots in the match with Christy recording a pair of saves.
