LAFAYETTE, La. -Following a record-breaking performance in a 10-1 victory over Alcorn State on Sunday, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns soccer team begins Sun Belt Conference play at home this weekend, hosting Georgia State on Friday at 7 p.m. and Georgia Southern on Sunday at noon.

Last weekend, the Cajuns went 1-0-1 at home with a 1-1 draw against Houston on Friday before taking down the Lady Braves to conclude the week. In Sunday's match, Louisiana set program records in points (26) and shots on goal (20), and tied the program record for goals scored. Yazmin Montoya, Danielle DeRosa and Denice Emokpae led the Cajuns offense with two goals apiece.

Scouting the Panthers
  • Georgia State enters Friday's match with a 2-5-3 record with wins over North Florida and Mercer
  • The Panthers are 0-3-3 on the road, and are being outscored 5-2 away from home this season
  • GSU is led by SBC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year Ashley Nagy and Whitney Ravan, who have both scored two goals apiece to lead the Panthers

Scouting the Eagles
  • Georgia Southern comes into Sunday's match carrying a 5-2-1 record
  • The Eagles are coming off a 2-0 road defeat to Jacksonville last Sunday
  • Nora El-Shami leads the Eagles this season with nine points and four goals, while Jennifer Wittick and Melinda Lukas follow closely behind with six points and three scores apiece

  • The Cajuns first took on Georgia State last season, defeating the Panthers 3-0 in Atlanta

Against Georgia Southern
  • This will be the first meeting between the two programs

Home Sweet Home
  • Louisiana is beginning to build quite a streak for excellence when the Ragin' Cajuns play on their home turf
  • The squad is 4-0-1 at home this season, and is outscoring their opponents 26-5 in those five matches
  • In their last 11 matches in Lafayette, the Ragin' Cajuns are 9-0-2, and have not lost at home since Sept. 9, 2013 in a 2-1 loss to Nicholls State
  • In 2013, Louisiana went 6-3-3 at the Cajuns Soccer Complex, outscoring the opposition 27-13

Balanced Attack
DeRosa Making Her Mark
  • It's not a surprise for Ragin' Cajuns fans to see a freshman pacing the squad
  • In 2013, freshmen Yazmin Montoya and Annika Schmidt totaled 54 of the team's 93 points during the season to lead the Ragin' Cajuns offense
  • This season, freshman Danielle DeRosa leads the Cajuns with seven goals and 16 points, which ties her for fifth in the Louisiana single-season record books
  • Nationally, DeRosa is ranked in three statistical categories
  • She is tied for 20th in the nation in total goals (7), tied for 27th in goals per game (.778) and tied for 34th in points per game (1.78)

Montoya Climbing the Record Books
  • After a four-point outing against Lamar on Sept. 14, Yazmin Montoya moved into third place in the Louisiana record books for career points (43) and goals (18)
  • The sophomore is just nine points shy from tying Courtney Hofland's school record of 52 points, and three goals away from tying Kelli Jestes' school record of 21 career goals

66 Starts
  • Senior defender Grace Howell-Harries has been a consistent leader for the Ragin' Cajuns for several seasons, and her numbers prove it
  • Howell-Harries has started every game she has played in, now at 66, which places her ninth all-time in career starts
  • She also played every minute for Louisiana during the 2012 and 2013 seasons
