LAFAYETTE, La. – After recording a season-high seven goals in a 7-2 win over Lamar on Sunday, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns soccer team closes out their nonconference slate this weekend with matches against Houston and Alcorn State.

Louisiana will first take on the Cougars on Friday at 7 p.m. before facing Alcorn State on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Cajuns are coming off a 1-1 weekend where they dropped a 2-0 decision to Louisiana Tech on the road Friday before taking down Lamar at home. In the match against the Lady Cardinals, sophomore forward Yazmin Montoya paced the Louisiana offense with two goals, while five other Ragin' Cajuns inked their names in the scoring column (Danielle DeRosa, Kimberly Grasso, Madison Duncan, Hannah Alba and Tina Sanchez).

Scouting the Cougars (1-2-3, 0-0-0 American)
  • The Cougars' last two matches have both resulted in 1-1 draws against Houston Baptist and Utah State
  • Houston's lone win of the season came on the road with a 2-0 victory over McNeese State, a team the Cajuns beat 3-0, in the season-opening weekend
  • Junior midfielder/defender Lexa Green and senior forward Kayla Walker lead Houston with two goals apiece this season

Scouting the Lady Braves (0-2-0, 0-0-0 SWAC)
  • Sunday's contest against Louisiana will just be Alcorn State's third match of the 2014 season, dropping a 9-0 contest to Southeastern Louisiana and a 4-0 decision to Nicholls State
  • Against the Colonels, Alcorn State was held to zero shots, and have taken just two on the season

Against Houston
  • On Friday, the Cajuns will look to end a seven-match losing skid to the Cougars
  • Houston is 8-1 all-time against Louisiana, and holds a 3-0 mark in Lafayette in a series that dates back to 2000
  • The two teams last met on the pitch in 2012 as Houston pulled out a 2-1 win over the Ragin' Cajuns in Lafayette

Against Alcorn State
  • This will be the first meeting between the two programs

Home Sweet Home
  • Louisiana is beginning to build quite a streak for excellence when the Ragin' Cajuns play on their home turf
  • The squad is 3-0 at home this season and is outscoring opponents 15-3 in those three matches
  • In their last nine matches in Lafayette, the Ragin' Cajuns are 8-0-1, and have not lost at home since Sept. 9, 2013 in a 2-1 loss to Nicholls State
  • In 2013, Louisiana went 6-3-3 at the Cajuns Soccer Complex, outscoring the opposition 27-13

DeRosa Making Her Mark
  • It's not a surprise for Ragin' Cajuns fans to see a freshman pacing the squad
  • In 2013, freshmen Yazmin Montoya and Annika Schmidt totaled 54 of the team's 93 points during the season to lead the Ragin' Cajuns offense
  • This season, freshman Danielle DeRosa is off to a quick start with a team-high five goals and 12 points in seven matches
  • In the Sun Belt Conference, DeRosa is tied for third with her five goals and tied for second with two game winners
  • Nationally, DeRosa is tied for 54th in points per game (1.71) and 55th in goals per game (.714)

Montoya Climbing the Record Books
  • After a four-point outing against Lamar on Sunday, Yazmin Montoya moved into third place in the Louisiana record books for career points (39) and goals (16)
  • The sophomore is just 13 points shy from tying Courtney Hofland's school record of 52 points, and five goals away from tying Kelli Jestes' school record of 21 career goals

64 Starts
  • Senior defender Grace Howell-Harries has been a consistent leader for the Ragin' Cajuns for several seasons, and her numbers prove it
  • Howell-Harries has started every game of her career, now at 64, which places her 10th all-time in career starts
  • She also played every minute for Louisiana during the 2012 and 2013 seasons

Preseason Accolades
  • Louisiana was picked to finish second in the Sun Belt Conference preseason poll, voted on by the league's 10 head coaches, behind 2013 NCAA Tournament participant South Alabama
  • The Ragin' Cajuns totaled a league-high three preseason all-conference selections - Grace Howell-Harries (Senior defender), Yazmin Montoya (Sophomore forward) and Annika Schmidt (Sophomore forward)
  • Howell-Harries also garnered SBC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year honors after earning the award following the 2013 season

Cali Connection
  • Of the 10 states represented on the 2014 Ragin' Cajuns roster, eight players hail from the Golden State, the most from any state
  • Louisiana welcomed four Californians to Lafayette this fall in junior college transfer Lindsey Stocks (Cypress), and freshmen Danielle DeRosa (Rocklin), Haley Boroch (Ontario) and Jorgie Smith (Fair Oaks)
  • The Cajuns also have redshirt freshman Alexias Stricklin (Rancho Santa Margarita), sophomores Yazmin Montoya (West Covina) and Olivia Frace (El Dorado Hills), and senior Tina Sanchez (Chino Hills) that come from California
