LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns soccer program continues their 2013 campaign with a pair of games over the weekend against Louisiana Tech and Nicholls State. The Cajuns will be finishing up their five-game homestand on Friday at 7 p.m. against Louisiana Tech, before taking to the road on Sunday at 1 p.m. to face Nicholls State.
Â
The Cajuns (1-2-2) are coming off their first win of the season, 5-0 over Northwestern State, and will look to find continued success against the Lady Techsters when they come to the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer Complex.
Â
Louisiana will be taking on Louisiana Tech for just the second time in school history, defeating them 6-0 in the only other meeting back in 2004. Nicholls State is a much more familiar foe, with this being the eighth meeting between the teams. Louisiana holds a 6-1-0 advantage, defeating the Colonels last season 2-1 at the Cajun Soccer Complex.
Â
Freshman forward Annika Schmidt is coming off the best game of her young career, netting the Cajuns' first hat-trick since October 31, 2008 when Callie Oliver achieved the feat. Schmidt netted her three goals against Northwestern State, scoring the first goal of the game and then adding two more in quick succession in the second half.Â
Â
She was named the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week, and now has nine points on the season, which leads the team and is tied for second in the Sun Belt Conference with Nancy Kirk of ULM.
Â
Louisiana will look to finish the current homestand with a winning record, going 1-1-2 in the first four games at home. They will be playing in just their second road game of the season, falling to Ole Miss 4-0 in the season opener.
Â
The Cajuns will return home after this weekend for two more games against Prairie View A&M on Friday and Mississippi Valley State on Sunday at 1.
Â
Friday's game against Louisiana Tech is Military Appreciation Night at the Cajuns Soccer Complex. All members of the military will be recognized at halftime.
