LAFAYETTE, La. – Shelby Isley added the second goal of the game in the 87th minute for Louisiana to make the score 3-2, but the Ragin' Cajuns couldn't tie it up, falling to Louisiana Tech on Friday at the Cajuns Soccer Complex.  The loss drops the Cajuns record to 1-3-2 on the season with four more games before conference play.

"Overall we played well today," head coach Scot Wieland said.  "I thought we controlled most of the second half.  We played well, we just have to eliminate some of the simple, youthful mistakes we are making that are putting us in the hole.  We will continue to work and eliminate those, and that is going to come as we progress."

Yazmin Montoya scored the first Cajuns' goal, with a nice volley of a crossing pass from Tina Sanchez to make it 2-1 at the time.

Sophomore Cory DeMarco made her second consecutive start, after posting a clean sheet on Sunday, and was handed her first career loss to fall to 1-1-0 on the season.  She made six saves in the contest, including four in the second half.

The Lady Techsters held an 18-10 lead in shots and a 9-6 lead in shots on target in the match.  The Cajuns would make their shots on target count, scoring in 2-of-6 shots on target.

"We are always working on having composure in the final third, Wieland said.  "Getting quality looks on frame is always the goal.  We did that a few times.  We just have to eliminate those mistakes that are ripping our momentum out."

Tech opened the scoring in the 20th minute of the game, when Brittany Beddow scored her first of the season.  Beddow took a far shot that just snuck into the upper left corner of the net to make it 1-0.

The Lady Techsters would strike again in the first half when Kathryn Sloan snuck past the Cajuns defenders and beat DeMarco one-on-one for the goal.

Montoya closed the gap before the end of the half, scoring in the 38th minute for her first career goal.  She volleyed the pass from Sanchez in a textbook play low in the zone, redirecting it into the lower left corner of the goal.  The assist was Sanchez's first of the season.

The teams would play fairly even for the next 30 minutes of soccer before Tech would strike for their third goal.  It was Sloan again, this time with a diving header low in the zone to take the lead.

The Cajuns controlled the ball for a majority of the second half, leading to Isley's goal to make it 3-2.  Natalie Newman sent a pass straight up field and Isley beat the keeper to the ball to just got it across the line.

"The first goal was absolutely beautiful," Wieland said.  "It was to-design.  You play the ball wide, attack the end line, serve it and score.  The second goal was gorgeous too because it was all heart.  They were equally as sweet."

It was Isley's second goal of the season and fifth and sixth points.  She now has 30 career points, tying Cayla Chatman for fourth all-time.  She also has 11 goals, which ties Chelsea Balestra for sixth all-time.

The Cajuns would gain momentum after the goal, but couldn't find the net in the final three minutes, falling 3-2.

Tonight's game marked the end of a five-game homestand.  The Cajuns will take to the road on Sunday when they travel to Thibodaux to take on Nicholls State for a mid-day matchup.  They are back at home next Friday when Prairie View A&M comes to town.  The Cajuns will stay at the Cajuns Soccer Complex on Sunday, when they face Mississippi Valley State, before taking to the road for four road games.
