Glenn scores twice as Louisiana equals best nine-match start in program history
BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns scored twice in the opening eight minutes and added three more goals after halftime to cruise past Southern University, 5-0, Tuesday night at A.W. Mumford Stadium.
Carson Glenn scored twice, while Miku Kurihara, Liv Harding and Lanie Benoit each added a goal as Louisiana improved to 6-2-1 on the season and matched its best nine-match start in program history.
Kurihara got the Ragin' Cajuns on the board in the seventh minute, scoring her Sun Belt Conference-leading eighth goal of the season on an unassisted strike. Less than a minute later, Glenn doubled the advantage when she finished a pass from Maria Reyes and scored her fourth goal of the season.
Glenn added her second goal of the night – and fourth in the past two matches – just 40 seconds into the second half, heading home a pass from Kurihara to push the Louisiana lead to 3-0.
The Ragin' Cajuns, who joined Georgia Southern as the Sun Belt Conference's lone six-win teams, continued to apply pressure, with Harding scoring her first career goal in the 58th minute with Glenn providing the assist to cap a career-best five-point night.
Benoit capped the scoring in the 77th minute with her first career goal, giving Louisiana a five-goal advantage.
Louisiana finished with a 20-10 edge in shots and put 13 attempts on frame compared with four for Southern.
Kurihara led Louisiana with six shots, including four on goal, while Benoit added four shots and three shots on target. Glenn finished with three shots and converted both of her shots on frame into goals.
Natalie Mayes earned the victory after making one save during the first half. Ally Allen added three saves in the second half before giving way to Laine Minich in the 82nd minute as Louisiana posted its second shutout of the season.
Louisiana will open Sun Belt Conference play on Sunday at noon when it plays host to Coastal Carolina (5-2-1) at the Home Bank Soccer and Track Complex. Admission to all Louisiana home soccer matches is free.
