Ragin' Cajuns, Red Wolves square off in crucial SBC series

JONESBORO, Ark. – Louisiana opens a three-game Sun Belt Conference series on Friday when it faces Arkansas State at Slayton Family Field at Tomlinson Stadium.
 
First pitch for Friday's opener is set for 6 p.m. The series continues on Saturday at 6 p.m., with the series finale set for Sunday at 1 p.m. All three games will be available on ESPN+ with fans able to listen locally on KPEL-FM (96.5) and worldwide on the Varsity Network app.
 
Louisiana (23-17, 7-11 SBC) sits two games behind four teams, including Arkansas State (25-15, 9-9 SBC), for sixth place in the league standings. The Ragin' Cajuns enter the weekend recording double-digit hits in the last four games.
 
Cody Brasch (3-2, 2.82 ERA) will start in Friday's opener for Louisiana with Andrew Herrmann (5-2, 3.78 ERA) – the SBC leader in strikeouts (76) – scheduled to pitch on Saturday. Sunday's starter is to be determined.
 
Lee Amedee (.333-3-27) and Colt Brown (.316-1-25) are Louisiana's top hitters with Rigoberto Hernandez (.299-3-22), Josh Lim (.283-1-12) and Mark Collins (.273-2-3) next.
 
A-State, which is 15-5 at home this season, took two of three games last weekend at ULM and exploded for 16 runs in the fourth inning in a 20-10 win over in-state rival Central Arkansas on Tuesday.
 
The Red Wolves, second in the SBC in home runs (62), has thrived on the mound under second-year coach Mike Silva, ranking second in the SBC in ERA (3.85) while leading the conference in hits allowed per 9 innings (8.13), WHIP (1.25) and walks allowed per 9 innings (3.14).
 
Freshman Derek Martinez (.333-12-28), outfielder Ashton Quiller (.321-6-25), and Cason Campbell (.310-5-21) are Arkansas State's top hitters. Right-hander Andrew Allen (1-3, 4.44 ERA) will start in Friday's opener for the Red Wolves with southpaws Jack Nelson (2-2, 4.47 ERA) and Dylan Farley (6-1, 2.56 ERA) scheduled to pitch in the final two games.

JONATHAN LUCROY DAY SET FOR MAY 2
• Louisiana Baseball will honor one of the program's all-time greats when Jonathan Lucroy has his No. 21 jersey retired on Saturday, May 2, at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park as part of Alumni Weekend.
• Lucroy, who will be inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame this summer, becomes just the third player in program history to have his jersey retired, joining his former head coach – the late Tony Robichaux (No. 36) – and former New York Yankees standout and Cy Young Award winner Ron Guidry (No. 3).
