Cajuns Battle Rebels Down to the Wire in 1-0 Contest

The Ragin’ Cajuns close out non-conference play on Sunday
OXFORD, Mississippi - It was another back-and-forth, entertaining game that came down to the wire for the Louisiana soccer team, but they ended up on the wrong side of the result in a 1-0 defeat at Ole Miss.
For the second-straight match, the Ragin' Cajuns battled an opponent where both sides recorded double-digit shots, as both teams finished with 11. Pailynn Pine got the action going for Louisiana with the first shot of the night just over two minutes into the contest.
Carson Glenn had the first shot on target between the teams in the 21st minute, but neither side was able to cash in on any offensive chances in the opening 45 minutes.
The home side finally recorded a shot on goal in the 54th minute of play, but Natalie Mayes made a terrific save to keep the ball out of the top right corner of the net. The score held there until the 66th minute when the Rebels scored from an angle that looked closer to a cross than a shot attempt, but got just over the outstretched arm of Mayes.
Louisiana continued to attack Ole Miss on the offensive end. Glenn had a shot in the 86th minute, but it sailed just high. Moments later, in the final two minutes, Pine had a shot on net that was deflected by the keeper into the crossbar before bouncing back out into the field of play.
Louisiana remains on the road to face Northwestern State on Sunday with a 6:30 p.m. start from Natchitoches.
