Ragin' Cajuns avert first three-match slide since 2023; will visit ULM on Thursday

LAFAYETTE – Carson Glenn scored the equalizer early in the 88th minute Sunday, helping Louisiana rally for a 1-1 draw against Marshall in Sun Belt Conference soccer action at the Home Bank Soccer and Track Complex.

The Ragin' Cajuns (9-4-3, 3-2-2 Sun Belt) avoided their first three-match losing streak in three years while earning a valuable point in the conference standings with two weeks remaining in the regular season.

Louisiana controlled much of the match offensively, outshooting the Thundering Herd (7-3-5, 3-1-3 Sun Belt), 12-4, including a 6-0 advantage after halftime.

Marshall took a 1-0 lead in the closing seconds of the first half when Wiktoria Mikrut converted a rebound after her penalty kick was initially saved.

The Cajuns had several opportunities to break through before the break. Addison Soehn sent a shot off the crossbar, while Miku Kurihara's attempt on an indirect free kick from inside the 18-yard box was blocked by a Marshall defender.

Louisiana continued to press in the second half. Salma Elhaimer put a shot on goal in the 67th minute before Charlotte Hinchey's header in the 82nd minute struck the underside of the crossbar and was secured by Marshall goalkeeper Emma Durand.

The Cajuns finally found the equalizer less than a minute after Marshall received a yellow card midway through the 87th minute. Glenn collected a deflection off a Thundering Herd defender and fired a right-footed shot past Durand for her career-best eighth goal of the season.

Natalie Mayes recorded two saves for Louisiana, moving into sole possession of fourth place on the program's career saves list with 178. Glenn led the Cajuns with three shots, putting two on target, while Kurihara placed both of her attempts on goal. Soehn added two shots.

Durand finished with four saves for Marshall, which recorded one shot on target from Isobel Young.

Louisiana continues its stretch of matches against in-state opponents Thursday when it travels to face ULM at 7 p.m. The Cajuns will return home Sunday to host Louisiana Tech in the annual Pink Match at 1 p.m. before closing the regular season on the road against Arkansas State.
