Kurihara’s Late Goal Leads Louisiana to Road Draw

The Ragin’ Cajuns wrapped up non-conference play 3-3-1
NATCHITOCHES, Louisiana - Miku Kurhara's late heroics pulled Louisiana even in an eventual 1-1 draw at Northwestern State on Sunday.
It was an active opening half for both teams, combining for 15 shots. Louisiana had nine of those attempts, with Salma Elhaimer and Sisley Stephens having shots on goal.
Things stayed that way out of the locker room, with both offenses applying pressure. After the Demons were awarded a corner kick, they took the lead in the 72nd minute after the corner kick bounced loose in the box.
Louisiana continued to stay the course on offense and peppered the net. Elhaimer was denied in the 77th minute, and moments later, a shot from Carson Glenn hit the left post to keep the Cajuns off the board.
With 90 seconds to play, Kurihara was in the right place at the right time. After a cross got deflected by the Demon goalkeeper, it went right to the feet of Kurihara, who blasted it into the back of the net to tie the score. The Ragin' Cajuns continued to apply pressure offensively and recorded three shots in the final minute of play, but they couldn't push across the winning goal.
Louisiana outshot Northwestern State 21-8, with the Cajuns landing eight shots on goal. In net, Natalie Mayes made a pair of saves for the Cajuns.
Louisiana starts Sun Belt Conference play on Saturday when it heads to Mobile to face South Alabama.
