Elhaimer is now tied with Carson Glenn for the team lead in goals
LAFAYETTE - Salma Elhaimer netted her third goal of the season, but the Louisiana soccer team couldn't add to it in a 1-1 draw against Georgia Southern at the Home Bank Soccer & Track Complex on Sunday.
Facing the Eagles at home for the first time since 2019, the Cajuns welcomed the visitors with a goal just 2:30 into the game when Elhaimer headed in a corner off the foot of Kendal Green. Both sides had their chances, with the Cajuns leading the half 8-5 in shots, but it was the Eagles who ended the half with a 4-1 lead in shots on goal.
Coming out of the half, the Cajuns looked to extend their lead, but the Eagles scored just 55 seconds into the half to tie the score when the ball just hit the fingertips of goalkeeper Natalie Mayes. Louisiana went to work, peppering Georgia Southern with nine shots in the second half, but none were able to break through for the lead.Â
With the draw, Louisiana now has five points in Sun Belt Conference play and sit fourth in the West Division behind Texas State (10), South Alabama (9), and ULM (8).
Louisiana remains at home to face Southern Miss on Sunday at 7 p.m.
