The Cajuns look to defeat the Lady Techsters for the first time since 2020

RUSTON, Louisiana - Coming off a strong offensive performance in its season opener, the Louisiana soccer team heads north to face future Sun Belt Conference member Louisiana Tech in Ruston, Louisiana, at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

The Ragin' Cajuns are coming off a 4-1 win over Lamar in their season opener, getting goals from Adeline Nemeth, Carson Glenn, Raegan Latiolais, and Salma Elhaimer. Now the Cajuns head to Ruston looking to break a long scoring drought against Louisiana Tech.

"Our preparation was good last week," said head coach Chris McBride. "They're definitely a very structured and disciplined tactical team, and we saw that last year with a 0-0 tie even though we had a lot of chances against them."

Neither side in the series has scored in over two and a half games, with scoreless draws in the last two meetings. Only one of the six all-time meetings has seen both teams score.

"There are a lot of different people right now that can go into our attack," said McBride. "There's a lot of athletic properties in the individuals and as a collective group, from the back, from the outside, and from the midfielders. We're really excited about the diversity in our attack and the different threats that we can provide."
  • With a win in their season opener, the Ragin' Cajuns are now 3-0-1 under head coach Chris McBride to start the season and unbeaten in their last six overall.
  • The 4-1 win over Lamar was a record-setting performance for the Cajuns. The four goals were the second-most in program history in a season opener, and it was the second-largest margin of victory to start the year, behind a 10-0 win over Jackson State in 2003.
  • Carson Glenn's penalty kick goal against Lamar was Louisiana's first attempt and make since Karleen Bedre's goal at Arkansas State on Oct. 6, 2022.
  • Louisiana's 4-0-3 start last season was the team's longest unbeaten streak to start a season in program history. The seven-game streak also tied for the longest streak overall in program history.
  • The Ragin' Cajuns are coming off one of the best years in program history on the defensive side. They allowed just 1.10 goals per game, the fewest in school history, while posting seven shutouts.
  • Louisiana is coming off back-to-back seven-win campaigns in 2023 and 2024. It's just the fourth time in program history the Cajuns have won seven or more games in back-to-back seasons (2006-07, 2012-16, 2019-20).
  • The Cajuns went 7-5-8 last season for a .550 winning percentage, the best in school history. The five losses were the fewest by the Cajuns, and the eight draws in a season were a program record.
  • These two sides have played to a scoreless draw in each of the last two meetings. Neither side has scored a goal since Louisiana scored in the 38th minute of their 2-0 win in 2020, a total of 232:54 of game action.
The Cajuns return home to take on McNeese on Sunday with a 7 p.m. start time.
