ESTERO, Fla. – Malan Potgieter recorded a round of 2-under-par 70 while Eli Ortego 1-under-71 as the duo each earned top-10 finishes and helped lead Louisiana to a third-place finish at the Old Corkscrew Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Old Corkscrew Golf Club.
Louisiana posted the lowest team score in the final round with a 1-over-par 289 to finish at 875 for the 54-hole event and seven strokes behind champion Florida Atlantic. Tournament host Florida Gulf Coast finished in second place at 871 with Louisiana, Troy (877) and UAB (880) rounding out the top five.
Potgieter earned his second consecutive top-5 finish and fourth of the season as he finished in a third-place tie at 2-under-214. The junior, who posted his 10th career top-10 performance, finished five shots behind individual medalist Nolan Taylor of FGCU (209) and one stroke behind second-place finisher NaShawn Tyson of FAU (213).
Ortego finished tied for seventh in the field at 1-over-217 to notch his second top-10 finish of the season and ninth of his career. The senior posted his 16th career top-20 finish for the Ragin' Cajuns, who entered the event ranked No. 71 nationally in the Scoreboard/Clippd rankings.
Kyle Bennett finished 18th overall for Louisiana at 6-over 222 with Carter Schmitt finishing in a tie for 23rd place (224) and Jean Louis du Plessis tied for 46th (233).
