Cajuns face tough field in final event before SBC Championships
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team makes its final tuneup before competing in the Sun Belt Conference Championships when it competes in the Aggie Invitational beginning Saturday at the Traditions Club.

The 54-hole tournament begins on Saturday at 7:20 a.m. with a 36-hole shotgun start before the final 18 holes will be played on Sunday. Live scoring is available at scoreboard.clippd.com.

Louisiana joins host and No. 19-ranked Texas A&M in the 12-team field. The field includes No. 6-ranked Oklahoma, Baylor, Lamar, Louisiana Tech, New Mexico State, North Texas, Rice, Sam Houston, Tarleton State and UTSA.

The Ragin' Cajuns opened a busy final week in preparation for the SBC Championships, scheduled for April 21-24, by placing third overall at the Old Corkscrew Intercollegiate in Estero, Fla. Malan Potgieter and Eli Ortego each posted top-10 finishes for Louisiana with Kyle Bennett earning a top-20 performance.

Potgieter, a two-time Sun Belt Conference Golfer of the Week and ranked No. 73 nationally, leads Louisiana into the event with a 71.11 scoring average in 27 rounds of play. The junior has produced eight top-20 finishes in nine events on the season for the Ragin' Cajuns, including five in the top-10 and four in the top-5.

Ortego has averaged 72.19 in 27 rounds of play this season for Louisiana with five top-20 finishes. The senior finished 1-over-217 at the Old Corkscrew Intercollegiate to finish tied for seventh overall in the field.

Kyle Bennett (72.62) had a string of 10 consecutive rounds of finishing at par or below, along with three straight top-10 finishes snapped last week. The UNO transfer has averaged 71.33 in 12 rounds during the spring with a pair of rounds in the 60's.

Carter Schmitt (74.13) and Jean Louis du Plessis (75.81) will round out the lineup for Louisiana with Dylan Keating (75.60) scheduled to compete individually.
