Louisiana Opens Busy Week at Old Corkscrew Intercollegiate

Cajuns one of four SBC schools in 10-team field

ESTERO, Fla. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team returns to the course for the first time in nearly a month when it opens play at the Old Corkscrew Intercollegiate on Monday at the Old Corkscrew Golf Club.
 
The opening 36 holes will be played on Monday beginning at 7:30 a.m. CT with the final 18 holes set for Tuesday at 7 a.m. Live scoring will be available at RaginCajuns.com.
 
Louisiana, ranked No. 71 overall in the current Scoreboard rankings, will be joined in the 10-team field by Sun Belt opponents Troy (52), Coastal Carolina (81) and James Madison (143). Host Florida Gulf Coast (50), Florida Atlantic (108), UAB (129), North Dakota State (136) and Northern Colorado (207) round out the field.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns, who will also compete at the Aggie Invitational beginning on Saturday in College Station, Texas, return to action for the first time since a third-place showing at the 40th annual Louisiana Classics on March 10-11. Louisiana posted a team score of 7-under-par 857 to finish behind top-20 programs LSU and Texas A&M in the 12-team field.
 
Malan Potgieter became the first Ragin' Cajuns golfer to earn medalist honors in the history of the event after posting a 54-hole score of 9-under-207. Potgieter, ranked No. 83 nationally, has posted a 70.63 scoring average in 24 rounds this season for the Ragin' Cajuns with eight rounds in the 60's.
 
Kyle Bennett will occupy the No. 2 slot in Louisiana's five-man lineup. The Zachary, La., native earned his third straight top-10 finish with a sixth-place finish at the Louisiana Classics and has averaged 72.39 in 18 rounds during the season.
 
Senior Eli Ortego (72.17) will compete in the No. 3 slot for Louisiana after finishing at even-par 216 to earn a top-20 performance at the Louisiana Classics. Jean Louis du Plessis (75.50) and Carter Schmitt (74.05) will compete in the final two spots in the lineup for the Ragin' Cajuns.
