Louisiana Shoots 2-Under Before Play Suspended at SBC Championships

Eight teams on course when play suspended; will resume on Tuesday at 7:30 a.m.
MADISON, Miss. – Malan Potgieter and Eli Ortego each fired a 2-under-par 70 and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team was one of six schools to complete its round after the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Golf Championships was suspended on Monday due to inclement weather.
Eight teams remained on the course when play was suspended. The first round will resume on Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. with the second round to follow. Live scoring is available at ScoreBoard.Clippd.com.
Louisiana, which struggled on the front nine, used a surge on the back nine to finish at 2-under-286 after the opening 18 holes to finish tied for fourth with Troy in the 14-team field.
The Ragin' Cajuns, who were paired with Troy and Arkansas State in the opening round, finished eight shots behind A-State with James Madison – one of the eight teams with players remaining on the course – in second at 4-under.
After converting a combined five birdies and posting a 5-over-par on the front nine, Louisiana got hot on the back with 14 birdies and a combined score of 7-under.
Ortego overcame a 1-over-37 on the front nine to finish 3-under on the back for Louisiana, including birdies and both No. 17 and 18. Potgieter recorded birdies on three of his final four holes for the Ragin' Cajuns to post his 21st round of the season with a score of par or lower.
Jean Louis du Plessis overcame a double bogey at No. 15 and finished at 2-under-34 on the back nine en route to an even-par 72. Kyle Bennett posted a 2-over-par 74 in his SBC Championship debut with Carter Schmitt recording a 3-over-75.
