Ragin' Cajuns paired with Troy, A-State in opening round

MADISON, Miss. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team looks to secure a berth in the NCAA postseason for the second time in three years when it opens play at the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Men's Golf Championships, beginning Monday at Annandale Golf Club.

Play begins with 18 holes per day in stroke play, beginning Monday at 8:30 a.m., on the par-72, 7,157-yard course. The four-day event will be streamed beginning at 10:30 a.m. on ESPN+ with live scoring available at ScoreBoard.Clippd.com.

The top four teams from the 54-hole stroke play portion of the event will advance to match play on Thursday, April 24. The semifinal matches will tee off beginning at 7:30 a.m. CT—with the No. 4 seed and the No. 1 seed on No. 1 and the No. 3 seed and the No. 2 seed on No. 10. The championship match will tee off from No. 1 following the conclusion of the semifinal matches.

Louisiana, the 2023 SBC champions and currently ranked No. 67 nationally in the SCOREBOARD NCAA Division I Men's Golf Rankings, will be paired with Troy (No. 49) and Arkansas State (No. 73) in Monday's opening round.

Kyle Bennett, playing in the No. 5 slot, opens play for Louisiana at 8:30 a.m. from the No. 1 tee and will be followed by Carter Schmitt (8:39 a.m.), Jean Louis du Plessis (8:48 a.m.), Eli Ortego (8:57 a.m.) and Malan Potgieter (9:06 a.m.).

Potgieter, ranked No. 66 nationally, has averaged a league-low 70.80 in 30 rounds of play for Louisiana during the 2024-25 season with a victory in the Louisiana Classics, along with five top-5 finishes.

Ortego, who will compete in his 50th career tournament for the Ragin' Cajuns, posted a 72.37 scoring average in 30 rounds of play with Bennett (73.58) putting together a stretch of 10 consecutive rounds of finishing at par or below in his first season at Louisiana.

Schmitt (74.30) and du Plessis (75.58) have each been mainstays in the lineup in their first season in a Louisiana uniform. Senior Burke Alford (73.73) will serve as the alternate for the Ragin' Cajuns.
