Du Plessis' Low Round Leads Louisiana After First Round at Lake Las Vegas

Ragin' Cajuns in fourth after 18 holes; paired with Long Beach, NIU, A-State in second round
HENDERSON, Nevada – Jean Louis du Plessis carded a season-low 4-under-par 68 and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns finished the opening day of the Lake Las Vegas Invitational in fourth place overall on Monday at Reflection Bay Golf Club.
The second round of the 54-hole event will begin at 10 a.m. CT. Louisiana will officially tee off beginning at 11 a.m. from the No. 1 tee. Live scoring will be available at Scoreboard.com.
Du Plessis, four strokes off the individual lead, posted his first round in the 60's as a Ragin' Cajun and his second round of par or better on the season. The junior posted a 4-under-32 on the front nine, starting with an eagle on the par-4, 414-yard No. 4 before recording birdies on No. 8 and 9.
Kyle Bennett notched five birdies in a nine-hole span to record his fourth straight round of par or better and match his season-low round, finishing tied for fifth overall with a 3-under-69.
Malan Potgieter and Carter Schmitt each recorded a 4-over-par 76 for the Ragin' Cajuns with Eli Ortego finishing with a 5-over-77. Dylan Keating, making his spring debut and playing individually, recorded an 80.
Louisiana, which trailed closely behind first-day leader Long Beach State and Northern Illinois before slipping over its final five holes of the day, finished with a team score of 1-over-par 289. The Ragin' Cajuns trailed Long Beach (277), NIU (279), and tournament co-host Arkansas State (286) after the opening 18 holes.
Charlie Forster of Long Beach State claimed the first-day lead after shooting an 8-under-64. Felix Krammer of NIU was two strokes back with du Plessis and Jake Lile of A-State tied for third.
