Louisiana Hits the Road to Face SBC Preseason Favorites

The Cajuns have won four of the last five in the series
JONESBORO, ARK. – Looking to keep pace with the rest of the Sun Belt Conference the Louisiana men's basketball team hits the road this week. The Cajuns open the week against preseason league favorite Arkansas State on Thursday in Jonesboro.
Kentrell Garnett made history in Saturday's win over ULM. The senior played in his 137th game as a Cajun to break the program record. He also is up to 214 career three-pointers, the fifth most in school history. Garnett played all 40 minutes in the team's 71-68 win over the Warhawks.
The Red Wolves snapped a two-game losing streak on Saturday with a road win over Troy, 84-78. Prior to the losing streak, they had won six in a row, including a win at nationally-ranked Memphis on December 8.

• Louisiana has won four of the last five in the series, but the Red Wolves beat the Cajuns last season in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, 89-62.
• Senior Kentrell Garnett made the 200th three-pointer of his Cajun career earlier this season, becoming the seventh player in program history to reach that mark. Garnett is now up to 214 threes and next up on the all-time list is Randell Daigle at 227.
• Garnett played in his 137th career game, setting the program record for most appearances in a Cajun uniform on Saturday.
• The second round of the MAC-SBC Challenge was announced on Monday. The Ragin' Cajuns will face Northern Illinois on the road on February 8. It'll be the first meeting all time between the programs.
• Under interim head coach Derrick Zimmerman, Louisiana has gotten defensive. The Cajuns have held opponents to 71 or fewer points in four of the five games under Zimmerman. In the first 12 games of the year the Cajuns held opponents under 71 five times. Louisiana has also seen an uptick in steals 8.4 under Zimmerman and 7.3 prior and blocks 4.0 under Zimmerman and 2.8 prior.
• Derrick Zimmerman earned the first win of his coaching in Louisiana's 71-68 victory over Coastal Carolina. The Cajuns trailed by as many as 13 in the second half before ending the game on a 10-1 run in the win. Both of Zimmerman's wins have been a double-digit second half comeback win.
