Cajuns, Islanders meet for first time since 2015-16

LAFAYETTE – Coming off its season-opener against three-time defending MAC champion Akron, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns return to the court on Friday when it plays host to Southland Conference member Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the Cajundome.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. The game will be available on ESPN+ with fans able to listen to the game on 103.3 FM The Goat, 1420 AM and the Varsity Network. Tickets are available at RaginCajuns.com.

Louisiana (0-1) fell behind early against the Zips and cut the deficit to single-digits twice but was able overcome a 19-point deficit in a 75-61 contest on Monday in the MAC-SBC Challenge. The loss marked Louisiana's third straight in a season opener – all against MAC schools (Kent State, Ball State and Akron).

The Ragin' Cajuns will face a Southland Conference school in the second tilt of the year for the second consecutive season after defeating Southeastern Louisiana in last year's home opener.

Jamyron Keller scored 26 points to lead all scorers against Akron with Dani Pounds (15 points, 7 rebounds) and Trent Middleton Jr. (14 points, 5 rebounds) reaching double figures in their Louisiana debut.

A&M-Corpus Christi opened its season on Monday with a 67-55 loss at Texas State. Desmond Kent Jr. scored 13 points off the bench for the Islanders with starter Daniel Michelini-Jackson scoring 10.

The meeting with the Islanders marks the sixth between the schools with Louisiana winning the five previous matchups. The Ragin' Cajuns earned a 96-72 win over A&M-Corpus Christi in the 2016 CIT Tournament at the Cajundome and an 85-77 victory on December 28, 1999.

The three previous meetings came in the 1957-58 season – including a pair of games in Corpus Christi.
