Louisiana heads west for its final non-conference road contest

BEAUMONT, Texas - Looking to end a three-match road trip with a win the Louisiana soccer team takes on Lamar at 7 p.m. in Beaumont on Thursday. The Ragin' Cajuns look to get back on track after having their seven-match unbeaten streak snapped on Sunday at LSU.

Louisiana faced its stiffest competition last week with Rice and LSU. The Cajuns played Rice, who had only one loss this season to the defending national champions, to a 2-2 draw before falling 3-1 to LSU despite leading at the half.

"Last week was the first time all season we've gone down," said head coach Chris McBride. "It's something we haven't done since last year and there's a lot of new faces on the team. It was a moment for us to learn and grow as a team."

While the week didn't go Louisiana's way, there were plenty of positives to take away from the two most recent matches.

"They were all really good, well-struck goals against us," said McBride. "What's beautiful about how we defended is we made a lot of mistakes and yet were still in the game. If we get better from that, that's huge progress for us."

The Ragin' Cajuns head east to Lamar looking to get back on track against the Cardinals, who have beat the Cajuns four straight times. Lamar has won back-to-back Southland Conference championships after rejoining the league in 2022.

"Lamar is a great team," said McBride. "They're athletic and have some pieces that can really cause you problems. We've got players playing in the right positions to play a high level of soccer so hopefully we can go on the road and be relentless and create opportunities."
