Louisiana Finishes Fifth Overall at Argent Financial Classic

Ragin' Cajuns return to links on Sept. 23-24 at GitRDone Invitational
CHOUDRANT – Malan Potgieter fired a 3-under-par 69 to earn his sixth career top-10 finish and Louisiana posted its second consecutive team score of 4-over 292 to finish in fifth place in the 2024 Argent Financial Classic on Tuesday at Squire Creek Country Club.
Kyle Bennett posted a final round score of even-par 72 as Louisiana concluded the 54-hole event at 8-over 872 – two strokes behind third-place finishers Rice and Little Rock. Troy claimed the team title at 857 with Houston finishing three strokes back at 860.
Potgieter recorded four birdies in the final round with a bogey at No. 18 to finish tied for eighth in the 99-player field at 2-under 214 – his first top-10 finish placing tied for fourth at the 2023 Aggie Invitational. The junior recorded a 2-under-34 on the front nine, capped by a birdie at No. 9, before producing birdies at both No. 11 and 12 on the back to move up 12 spots on the leaderboard.
Bennett produced his best round in his Louisiana debut after posting scores of 76 and 81 in the first 36 holes. The New Orleans transfer opened with a pair of bogeys through the first three holes before his birdie at No. 9 closed his score at 1-over 37 at the turn.
Eli Ortego recorded a 3-over 75 in the final round to finish tied for 29th overall at 4-over-220 with Burke Alford firing a 76 in the final round to finish at 6-over-222 for the event. Dylan Keating posted an 82 in the final round to finish at 10-over-226 with Jean Louis du Plessis posting his best round (4-over-76) in his debut to finish at 241.
Louisiana will return for its second event of the fall season Sept. 23-24 when it competes in the 11-team GitRDone Invitational, hosted by the University of Nebraska.
