Louisiana moves up three spots on final day of 54-hole tournament
BRYAN, Texas – Malan Potgieter posted a 1-over-par 73 to finish and recorded his second top-five performance of his collegiate career and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team moved up three spots on the final day of the 2024 Aggie Invitational on Sunday at The Traditions Golf Club.
Louisiana posted a team score of 9-over 297 in the final round to finish the 54-hole event in seventh place at 906 and six holes behind fifth-place Louisville and UTSA.
First-day leader Baylor claimed the tournament title with a team score of 878 with host Texas A&M six strokes back at 884. Sam Houston (896), LSU (899), Louisville (900), UTSA (900) and Louisiana followed with Memphis (910), Louisiana Tech (910), Florida Gulf Coast (911), Lamar (921) and New Mexico State (931) rounding out the field.
Potgieter, who finished two strokes behind co-champions Jamie Montojo of Texas A&M and Niilo Maki-Petaja of Louisiana Tech in the individual standings, made the turn at 2-over-37 in the final round before birdies at No. 2, 6 and 9 to post a 1-under-par 35 on the front nine.
The sophomore finished at 3-over-par 219 for the 54-hole event and recorded his first top-five finish since finishing tied for third overall at the 2022 Tempest Intercollegiate.
Dylan Keating shot a final round score of even-par 72 to finish at 229 for Louisiana with Eli Ortego posting a 78 to finish at 229. Jake Marler carded a final round score of 2-over 74 to finish at 235 for the Ragin' Cajuns with freshman Matthew Lotz finishing at 241.
Burke Alford recorded a 2-over 74 in the final round to finish at 237 overall and seventh among 16 players competing individually.
Louisiana will make its final tuneup before the 2024 Sun Belt Conference Championships beginning on Monday (April 15) when it competes in Mississippi State's Mossy Oak Collegiate Championship in West Point, Miss.
