Potgieter, Ortego Pace Cajuns at Mossy Oak Collegiate

Final round prior to SBC Championships set for Tuesday
WEST POINT, Miss. – The duo of Malan Potgieter and Eli Ortego each posted first-day scores of 2-under-par 142 and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team finished in ninth place overall at the Mossy Oak Collegiate on Monday at Mossy Oak Golf Club.
The final round of the 54-hole tournament is scheduled for 8 a.m. on Tuesday with a fixed start at the No. 1 and 10 tees. Live results will be available at GolfStat.com.
Potgieter, bolstered by five birdies on the back nine, recorded a five-under-par 67 in the opening round for Louisiana before posting a 3-over-75 during the afternoon. Opening at the No. 16 tee, Potgieter birdied two of his first three holes before making the turn and shooting an even-par 36 on the front nine.
The sophomore made the turn and birdied three straight holes to move to 5-under for the round before closing out with three pars down the stretch.
Ortego posted a three-under-par 33 on the front nine in the opening round and eventually finished with a 2-under-70 before shooting an even-par 72 in the second round. Ortego was aided by a 3-under-33 on the back nine after posting a 39 on the front.
Burke Alford posted rounds of 72 and 76 to finish at 4-over-148 for Louisiana with Jake Marler posting rounds of 74 and 77 to finish at 7-over-151. Dylan Keating finished one stroke back at 8-over-152 for the Ragin' Cajuns after recording rounds of 78 and 74.
Second-ranked Auburn, paced by five of the top six finishers after two rounds, claimed the first-day lead at 541. Second-place Cincinnati was 23 strokes back at 564 with No. 5-ranked Ole Miss at 565. Augusta (568) and Kansas State (571) rounded out the top five with Southern Miss (575), host Mississippi State (576), Liberty (576), Louisiana and Louisiana Tech (580) rounding out the top-10.
