Cajuns Finish Tied For 11th at Argent Financial Classic

Louisiana to resume fall play on Oct. 12-13 at Moraine Intercollegiate
CHOUDRANT - UL freshman Skuli Agustsson finished off his first collegiate golf event on a high note, posting an even-par 72 in Tuesday's final round and claiming a top-20 finish in the Argent Financial Classic.
Agustsson, who did not participate in the Ragin' Cajuns' first two tournaments of the fall season, had a hugely consistent final round, recording 16 pars with one birdie and one bogey. That put him at one-under 215 for the tournament after 75-68 scores in his first two rounds, and tied for 19th overall.
The first-year collegian from Akureyri, Iceland, was the highlight for the Cajuns for the second straight day over the difficult 7,105-yard par-72 Squire Creek Country Club course, one rated No. 1 in the state by several golf publications. He birdied the 405-yard par-4 14th hole and came within one hole of a bogey-free round before bogeying his final hole of the tournament, the 546-yard par-5 ninth hole.
Over the tournament's three rounds, Agustsson recorded nine birdies – six in his Monday four-under 68 round – and eight bogeys as the only UL player to avoid a double or triple-bogey in the tournament.
Sophomore Drew Sliman of Lafayette improved his score for the third straight day and finished at 75-74-73—222 (+6) to finish tied for 43rd as UL's other top-50 finisher. Sliman birdied four of his first eight holes Tuesday and added a closing birdie on the ninth hole.
Sophomore James Holtsclaw had his best round of the tournament with a three-over 75 and finished at 11-over 227, the same score as Cajun freshman and individual entry Kye Hanks, who bounced back from an 82 on Monday and finished 72-82-73—227. Both tied for 61st individually.
Fourth year senior Ellis Bright had a final-round 75 and finished tied for 65th at 229, while Carter Schmitt struggled to an 83 Tuesday and finished tied for 73rd at 235. Sophomore Nathan Schuldt, also playing as an individual, finished with a 75 for a 232 total to tie for 70th.
The Cajuns will have a two-week break from competition before returning to action Oct. 12-13 at the Moraine Intercollegiate at the Moraine Country Club in Kettering, Ohio, hosted by Miami (Ohio). That will be the fourth of five tournaments for UL in the fall season.
