The Ragin’ Cajuns look to avenge last season's loss at Troy
LAFAYETTE - The Louisiana soccer team welcomes Troy to the Home Bank Soccer and Track Complex on Sunday. The Ragin' Cajuns are searching for their first win in the Sun Belt Conference after playing to a pair of draws in the first three games of conference play.
Â
Louisiana is 0-1-2 in conference play, holding a lead in both draws. The Ragin' Cajuns look to get in the conference win column against the Trojans, who are yet to score in SBC play.
Â
"If we were 10 percent better in a few of our ties we'd have gotten the outcome we needed," said head coach Chris McBride. "We have to put 90 minutes together in all areas of the game. We don't have to be firing on all cylinders, scoring four or five goals, but we need to play our game and walk away with three points."
Â
Louisiana comes into the weekend battle-tested after facing Texas State, App State, and ULM, three teams expected to factor into the SBC Championships in November. Through the three games, the team's toughest stretch of the season, they've learned more about what it will take to win a SBC Championship.
"There's a difference between playing good soccer and playing winning soccer," said McBride. "Right now we're playing good soccer but now every game is like a championship final. Everyone is coming out for three points and doing whatever it may be to earn them. We need to be purposeful in every movement and maintain focus on both ends to get the job done."
Â
The Cajuns did receive a bit of a break without having to play on Thursday. With a single game this week, the team was able to refocus and recharge for the final month of the regular season.
Â
"You look at the Texas State game recently and we came out firing after having Thursday off," said McBride. "We came out on the front foot and created a lot of chances while limiting their chances. It gives us a great chance to evaluate what we need to improve and plan practice around that to continue to grow as a team."
