Beck’s Goal Leads Louisiana to 1-0 Win Over Troy

It was Louisiana's first SBC victory of the season
LAFAYETTE - In a game of inches, the Louisiana soccer team came away with a 1-0 win over Troy on Sunday at the Home Bank Soccer and Track Complex. It was the first Sun Belt Conference win of the season for the Ragin' Cajuns thanks to Tatum Beck's second half goal.
"It was good to get back to how we had been playing at the start of the year," said head coach Chris McBride. "We didn't give up a ton of opportunities. Troy created some things but we managed to limit them offensively. Sunday afternoon games are always tough, and you got to play with some grit, and I thought we did that today."
Neither side had much going offensively early on and went into the half scoreless with just three combined attempts on goal. In the 70th minute, Beck took the ball towards the corner, cut back, and fired one off her left foot. The ball beat the keeper and bounced off the far post into the net for the match's lone goal.
"That's pretty much my signature," said Beck on her second goal of the season and the ninth of her Cajun career. "Cut it back in and thankfully it hit the back post and went in."
The win put Louisiana into a tie for the West Division lead with five points, along with Texas State, with six games to play. Only one of the remaining games for Louisiana will be against someone higher than them currently in the standings.
"The team is excited about trying to get better every single day," said McBride. "Today was an opportunity for us to get back to where we want to be with our performance. We thought if we played our game, the score would take care of itself."
In goal, Natalie Mayes made two saves for her league-leading sixth shutout of the season. The sophomore now has two more shutouts than anyone else in the SBC.
Louisiana plays their penultimate home match of the season on Thursday as they host the defending SBC regular season champions in South Alabama.
