The team will honor their five seniors prior to the game
LAFAYETTEÂ - The Louisiana soccer team welcomes Georgia State to the Home Bank Soccer and Track Complex for their home finale beginning Sunday at noon. It is Senior Day for the Ragin' Cajuns who will honor their five seniors, Tatum Beck, Lauren Bennett, Lucy Ortiz, Mariella Stephens, and Hailly Waterhouse.Â
Those five seniors have played a major role this season for the Cajuns. Bennett, Waterhouse, and Stephens lead the team in minutes while Ortiz leads the team in goals. Beck and Stephens each have scored twice, giving the group a total of eight goals this season.
"I'm looking forward to enjoying every little moment that I have with my teammates left," said Ortiz, who has served as a team captain for the last three seasons. "We have two games remaining and we don't know beyond that. That uncertainty really makes you enjoy every second with the team and the game."
Louisiana needs a pair of wins heading into the final two games of the season as they currently trail Georgia State by three points for the eighth seed in the Sun Belt Conference. A win would vault the Cajuns back into the playoff hunt heading into the final game of the regular season on Thursday.
A lot is on the line with so few games remaining, but the Cajuns are still looking to win for each other.Â
"We're playing for something more, this weekend is more than just a game," said Waterhouse. "It's something we really cherish in our hearts and we're playing for each other. Senior day is great but at the same time we're a team and if we play that way we'll have success."
Louisiana wraps up the regular season on Thursday at Marshall.
