The junior netted her second goal of the season
HATTIESBURG, Mississippi - In the final game of a three-game road trip the Louisiana soccer team fell to Southern Miss 4-1 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
"I felt that we gave a great effort today but ultimately fell short," head coach Chris McBride said. "Southern Miss was very clinical inside our box and we did not do a good enough job in either box today."
Both sides were evenly matched early on but in the 30th minute, the Golden Eagles got the first break. A foul in the box gave the home side a penalty kick, which they converted for the 1-0 lead heading into the half.
The Golden Eagles added goals in the 51st and 63rd minute but the Ragin' Cajuns continued to push the pace offensively. After a foul gave Louisiana a free kick, the offense finally broke through. Chloe Mueller's serve into the box was handled by Lauren Bennett, who passed it to the foot of Briana Henry who converted to cut the deficit to 3-1. The offense continued to push forward but the Golden Eagles ended any chance of a comeback with a goal in the 80th minute.
The Ragin' Cajuns return home for the final time this season as they'll host Georgia State on Sunday at noon.
