Potgieter Posts Top-5 Finish to Lead Cajuns at Everett Buick GMC Classic

Louisiana finishes eighth in 16-team field; will wrap up fall schedule Oct. 28-29

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. Malan Potgieter recorded his sixth consecutive round of par or better, recording a 2-under-par 70 to finish tied for fourth overall to lead the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team on the final day of the Everett Buick GMC Classic on Tuesday at Chenal Country Club.
 
Louisiana would struggle in the final round, posting a team score of 297 in the final round to finish in eighth place at 3-over-867 for the 54-hole tournament. 
 
Potgieter recorded his third career top-5 finish at the collegiate level after finishing with a career 54-hole low, 9-under-207 in the event and three shots behind medalist Jake Springer of Troy. The junior posted three birdies on the front nine and made the turn at 2-under-34 before collecting three more birdies and finishing at even-par 36.
 
Burke Alford fired a 2-over-74 in the final round to earn his fourth career top-20 finish for Louisiana (74-68-74-216) with Eli Ortego recording a 3-over-75 in the final round to finish tied for 38th (73-74-75-222).
 
Kyle Bennett placed in a tie for 41st overall for the Ragin' Cajuns after posting his best 54-hole score (73-74-75-222) of the season while Dylan Keating finished at 235. Carter Schmitt posted a 1-over-73 in the final round to finish tied for 33rd overall (71-75-73-219) and second among 12 players competing individually.
 
Host Little Rock ran away with the team title, posting a team score of 278 in the final round and finishing at 26-under-838 for the tournament. South Carolina (852) was second in the 16-team field followed by Troy (859), Memphis (861) and UAB (861). Lipscomb (863) was sixth with North Texas (866), Louisiana, Ball State (879) and ULM (881) rounding out the top 10 teams.
 
Louisiana will wrap up the fall portion of its 2024-25 schedule on October 28-29 when it travels to Tulsa, Oklahoma to compete in the Clerico, hosted by Oral Roberts University.
