Cajuns Drop SBC Opener at Texas State, 3-0

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Mady Soumare had a goal and an assist and Texas State won its 24th conference opener in 25 years with a 3-0 victory over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Soccer team in the Sun Belt Conference opener for both teams on Sunday at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
Zoe Junior and Halle Garcia added goals for Texas State (6-3-0, 1-0-0 SBC), which scored twice in an eight-minute span to break away from a scoreless contest at halftime.
Louisiana (3-3-2, 0-1-0 SBC) placed three of its nine total shots on goal with Emma Bates, Tatum Beck and Gabi Placke. Makenna Garcia tallied four saves for the Ragin' Cajuns with Beck pacing the team with a pair of shot attempts.
Cassandra Décombe, Sisley Stephens, Lauren Bennett, Mya Smith and Karleen Bedre – playing in her school record-tying 84th career match – each recorded shots for Louisiana, which dropped consecutive matches for the first time this season.
Louisiana will return to league action on Thursday when it travels to Norfolk, Va., to face Old Dominion in a 6 p.m. CT match.
