First Half Goal Lifts Trojans Past Louisiana, 1-0

TROY, Ala. – Gabrielle Chartier's goal in the 23rd minute was part of an 11-shot first half effort by Troy and the Trojans held on to defeat the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, 1-0, in a Sun Belt Conference Women's Soccer match on Sunday at the Troy Soccer Complex.

Rubie Kelley faced 10 shots in goal as Troy (6-9-2, 1-6-2 SBC) snapped a three-match losing streak to Louisiana (6-8-2, 3-6-0 SBC). The Ragin' Cajuns, who entered the match tied with Arkansas State for 10th place in the SBC standings, retained the No. 10 seed for the SBC Championships in Foley, Ala., as A-State dropped a 2-1 match to App State.

Louisiana attempted three shots in the opening half as Tatum Beck's shot in the fourth minute went left of the goal before shots by Mariella Stephens and Lauren Bennett later in the half went wide.

The Ragin' Cajuns posted seven shots in the final 20 minutes of the contest with Briana Henry and Hailly Waterhouse each attempting a pair. Sisley Stephen's attempt in the 71st minute sailed high over the goal with the Trojan defense blocking three Ragin' Cajun attempts including an attempt by Karleen Bedre in the 73rd minute.

Natalie Mayes stopped five shots for Louisiana as the Trojans held an 18-10 lead. Jordan Stack had a match-high four shots, including a pair on goal for Troy, with Chartier, Alisa Detlefsen and Tatum Tishler attempting three apiece.

Louisiana will close out the regular season on Thursday when it hosts Marshall in a 7 p.m. contest at the Home Bank Soccer and Track Complex. The Ragin' Cajuns will honor their senior class of Alyssa Abbott, Karleen Bedre, Gabby Felix and Mya Smith in a pre-match ceremony.
