Louisiana looks for school-record fifth straight victory; seventh straight against Demons

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's soccer team wraps up its non-conference schedule on Sunday when it travels up I-49 to Natchitoches to face in-state foe Northwestern State at the Lady Demon Soccer Complex.

Louisiana (4-2-1) won its fourth straight match after posting a 2-0 victory over Nicholls on Wednesday behind second-half goals from Skyla Sykes and Gwen Mummert. The Ragin' Cajuns held a decisive 16-1 advantage in shots against the Colonels with Mackenzie Lee posting her sixth career shutout to move into a tie for sixth-place in school history.
 
Sykes and freshman Karleen Bedre have scored a team-high three goals each to lead Louisiana with Bedre (4) and freshman Rachel Sutter (3) leading the team in assists. Mummert, Una Einarsdottir and Katherine Whitman have scored two goals each for the Ragin' Cajuns with Lee posting a 1.85 goals against average with 22 saves.
 
Northwestern State (2-5-0) won its second consecutive match after an 0-5 start after blanking Sun Belt Conference favorite Texas State, 1-0, on Friday. Hallie Field scored the match's lone goal in the 24th minute for the Demons while Acelya Aydogmus recorded a save in posting the shutout.

• The shutout of Nicholls on Sept. 11 was the sixth for Mackenzie Lee in her career, moving her into a tie with Cosette Morche (2015-16) for fourth-place on the all-time list.
• With 12 career victories between the posts, Lee can pass Morche for sole possession of fourth place on the Ragin' Cajuns all-time list.
• Lee is 14 saves shy of tying Anne Corbello (144 saves - 2000) for sixth place in school history.
 
AWAY FROM THE FRIENDLY CONFINES
• Eleven of Louisiana's 18 regular-season matches are being played away from the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer/Track Complex, including six of the first seven matches.
• The opening stretch of matches in 2019 marks the first time since 2008 that Louisiana will play one home match in its first seven contests of the season.
• The 2008 squad opened the season at home against Southeastern Louisiana before playing its next seven on the road.
 
THE KEY TO WINNING
• In 12 seasons as head coach at Trinity University (Texas), Lance Key won 88.3 percent of his matches, compiling a 210-21-16  in the process.
