SAN MARCOS, TEXAS – In its first Sun Belt Conference road match of the season, Louisiana Women's Tennis (6-8, 1-2 SBC) fell 4-0 to the Texas State Bobcats (5-7, 1-2 SBC) at the Bobcat Tennis Complex on Saturday morning.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Doubles): Although Texas State took the doubles point, Louisiana did snag a match during the doubles competition. The Bobcats took the doubles match, 6-2, when, at No. 1, the Texas State duo of Ana Perez and Navajo-Melendez beat Louisiana's pairing of sophomore Dana Radovanovic and junior Clara Mantaux.
Louisiana's snagged the next match, with the freshman pairing of Hoda Habib and Ai Noa Fabre, taking down Texas State's Rishona Israel-Lewis and Joy Chia Ming Ming, 6-2, at No. 2 doubles. Texas State then locked up the doubles point with a 6-3 win at No. 3, when Louisiana's pairing of sophomore Floriane Picaut and freshman AK Harvey lost to Andrea Fuchs and Murcia-Rodriguez to give Texas State a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Singles): Texas State extended its lead to 2-0 when at No. 6, junior Milena Achlamov lost to Fuchs in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4. The next point for Texas State came at No. 1, when Picaut dropped her match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, to Ana Perez.
Holding a 3-0 lead, Texas State got the winning point at No. 2, when Habib lost in straight sets to Israel-Lewis, 6-1, 6-3. The loss meant that Texas State had locked up the match, winning 4-0.
UP NEXT FOR THE CAJUNS: Louisiana wraps up its road conference opening weekend with a visit to Arlington, Texas, to face the UT Arlington Mavericks on Sunday, March 24 with that match set to start at 10 a.m.
