Louisiana improves to 12–4 overall while senior Angelique Berrat records career-best 11th singles victory
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Tennis team wasted little time getting back in the win column on Wednesday, April 1, turning in a decisive 4–0 victory over Northwestern State in the finale of a five-match homestand at Cajun Courts.
Louisiana (12-4) bounced back immediately after its season-best nine-match win streak was snapped on Sunday against Texas State, improving to 10 wins in its last 11 outings with the shutout of the Lady Demons (10-6).
The Ragin' Cajuns seized the momentum early by securing the doubles point. The pairing of Safia Zenbi and Martina Della Gora delivered a convincing 6-1 win on court No. 2, before Angelique Berrat and Nina Krecklenberg clinched the point with a 7-5 come-from-behind victory at the top position
Louisiana carried the momentum into singles play and quickly closed out the match with three straight-set victories.
Berrat led the charge as she was the first one off of the courts, defeating Honoka Umeda, 6-1, 6-4 on court No. 1, opening a 2-0 match lead for Louisiana.
The win marked a new career-high for Berrat with her 11th singles victory of the season and moved her within two wins of reaching 40 career singles victories. She extended her personal win streak to nine matches and improved to 11-1 this spring on court 1.
Marilou Bressan extended the Cajuns' lead to 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Athina Grigoriadou on court No. 3. Moments later, Zenbi sealed the team victory with a 7-5, 6-1 triumph against Maria Farina at the No. 2 position.
Bressan picked up her second consecutive victory since returning to the courts on March 27 while Zenbi improved to 3-1 on court 2 and 7-5 overall in singles action.
Three additional singles matches were left unfinished once Louisiana secured the clinching point.
The victory wrapped up a successful five-match homestand for the Ragin' Cajuns, who continue to build momentum as the regular season winds down and the 2026 Sun Belt Conference Championship tournament approaches.
